WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING THIS WEEK?

Birthdays: Happy birthday to Saimon (N) who was 3 on Wednesday, and happy birthday to Sophia (Pr-K/K) who will be 4 on Saturday.

Toddler: “This is me” was our topic this week. We concentrated on parts of our face such as: eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc and did some actions with them like pulling our ears, tapping our nose, blinking our eyes or blowing a kiss. Our children had a good time practising the game “Show me your eyes, your nose, etc.” We are learning our teachers’ and friends’ names singing the song “Where is Ms. Thuy?”, and then replacing it with all of the names in our class. In our Sensory session we continued playing with water at our water table on the balcony. In Art, our children enjoyed using paint when painting paper plate faces. The children looked in the mirror and then tried to recreate what they saw by sticking on wiggly eyes, paper noses and mouths. Next week we will move to the topic “Our hands”.

Nursery: We would like to welcome Justin who joined Nursery class on Friday. This week we continued to talk about body parts. We read a story called “There’s a spider on the floor”. After that the children played a game where they put a spider on different parts of the body. In Maths, the children learnt a song “Macmana has one nose, one head, two eyes”. The children enjoyed counting as they sang. In P.E., we continued to practise walking in different ways such as: on our heels, on our toes, along balance beams, etc. We also enjoyed “The bean bag dance” as we danced and put the bean bag on different parts of the body. In our Vietnamese activity, we played with a traditional lion’s head mask and practised dancing as we sang a song called Tung dinh dinh. Next week we will talk about “The Five Senses”.

Discovery: The Discovery class spent the week continuing to learn about our bodies and how we have grown from being babies to now. We discussed some of the differences and created our own personalized books titled “Watch Me Grow” for our classroom library. We placed our baby pictures and a present day picture in our book to show the comparison. We also spent the week learning vocabulary for different clothes and how to dress ourselves. Thank you for the extra clothes sent in, it was a great learning experience for everyone to button their own shirts and pants.

For maths we learned about the number 3 and the colour green. The numbers we have been sending home are a fun activity for the children to count the buttons to give meaning to a number and to reinforce the colours we have learned. Everyone enjoyed our display of green items and had fun discovering and sharing. For Vietnamese class, we continued to learn about our colours, numbers and the upcoming Moon Festival. Maybe you have heard how we wear a dragon mask and dance to the music.

For the upcoming week we will learn about our families and celebrate the different languages we all speak. We will also learn how we can all be helpful in the home and think of different ways to help mom & dad.

Have a wonderful weekend.

PRE-K/KINDER: We warmly welcome Amber to our class this week. As we continue to talk about our body we observed similarities and differences between each other. We have discovered that although we have the same number of body parts we don’t look alike. Our bodies have different heights: some of us are taller, some are shorter and we compared them and identified the tallest and the shortest person. We have also looked at our hair and described it as long, short, straight, wavy, curly, black, brown or even red. We have learned a song called “Hair” which talks about all the different hair types. Then we looked at the colour of our eyes and made an eye colour chart. In our class we have black, brown and blue eyes. In our activity in Vietnamese we looked at the faces on mat na nan – the colourful masks painted on bamboo baskets and we used plain bamboo baskets to colour the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. In our music activity we practiced starting and stopping on cue when playing an instrument. We have also practiced playing quiet and loud sounds and learned the difference between high and low pitch. We enjoyed making these sounds with our voice. Next week we will continue to look at ourselves and we will talk about our birthday.

Important Dates: Wednesday 8th September- Parents Cocktail Reception at 6.30 p.m.

Tuesday, 21st September - Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

From The School Office: This week we are very happy to welcome two new additions to our teaching staff. We have a new assistant to our Nursery Class, Ms Van. Ms Van joins us from Viet Kids Kindergarten and has 5 years classroom experience following Pre-School Teacher Training College. With Rainbow School she will receive on the job English language training to improve her English Language skills.

We also welcome Ms Gwenaelle who is our new Art teacher, working with the afternoon children, our Extra Curricular programme, and also our teachers in the form of teacher training. Gwenaelle is an artist of long standing and last year, with the help of all of our children and class teachers, created the film ‘Mikado’ which we showed at our May Cocktail Party. We very much look forward to her first project on ‘Fantastic Animals’.

I would like to remind parents of our Cocktail Party and Welcome Reception on Wednesday next week. If you haven’t returned your reply slip please do it by Monday at the latest.

Best wishes for the weekend.
